The Nautical Centre has opened in Genoa’s Levante Waterfront area as a new maintenance, refit and service facility for sailing and motor pleasure boats up to 30 metres.
The facility represents a €12m investment and brings together Genoa Sea Service, Gatti, part of Amico Marine, and North Sails in a shared infrastructure project while allowing each business to retain its own identity and autonomy.
The site covers 16,000sqms of land and includes a two-storey industrial building with 6,200sqms of covered space.
Genoa Sea Service and Gatti operate on the ground floor, while North Sails has established its sail loft on the upper floor.
The centre also includes 1,000sqms of equipped docks, a slipway and launching dock, a 140-tonne travel lift, 5,300sqms of waterfront and 356 linear metres of technical docks.
Quantum leap
Nicolò De Angelis, chief executive of Genoa Sea Service, said the centre represented ‘a quantum leap in terms of infrastructure, operational capacity, and organisation’ for the company.
He said the travel lift, extended tank and covered areas would strengthen its refit and maintenance work on sailing and motorboats between 15 and 30 metres, including in the superyacht tender sector.
Vittorio Gatti, operations manager of Gatti, added that the project confirmed the shipyard’s commitment to modern logistics and specialised skills after more than 50 years serving Genoa’s yacht owners.
The investment includes the new travel lift, the extension of the slipway, covered warehouses, workshops, a carpentry shop and offices, with further plans to electrify docks and invest in existing technical berths.
The official opening of the new Nautical Centre is scheduled to take place at the Genoa Boat Show in October.
