Highfield Boats to create 110 new jobs

Highfield Boats USA is to create 110 new jobs as it expands its boat assembly process in Cadillac, Wexford County.

Highfield Boats USA was founded in 2011 and manufactures aluminium RIBs and tenders.

The expansion is expected to generate $3.15 million in capital investment, with the new roles having an average hourly wage of $24 plus benefits.

It has the support of a $990,000 Michigan Business Development Program grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

“Our investment in Michigan marks the company’s first major investment to the US market and we chose Cadillac for its rich legacy in recreational boat building and the unwavering support of both the local and statewide communities,” said Christophe Lavigne, president Highfield USA.

The US market has become one of the largest segments for Highfield, with the company saying it represents the biggest growth potential.

This new facility will be a hull and assembly production operation, when at full capacity, will employ 75 direct hourly employees including welders, fiberglass specialists, PNC operators, painters, engine installers and electricians, as well as 35 salaried positions.

Christophe added: “Over the past two years, Highfield USA has been diligently working to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Michigan.

“Thanks to the strong support of local officials and the community, this project officially launched just over a year ago.

Ambitious goals

“With the unwavering commitment of the state of Michigan, we are poised to continue driving investment and job creation in the region.”

He continued: “As we look to the next two to three years, we are excited about the ambitious goals we’ve set for growth, expanding our company’s footprint and capabilities.

“Since the inception of this project, Highfield USA has directly hired 13 local employees and invested in key areas, including design, engineering, tooling, and mold-making – all of which are being executed locally.”

And he said that currently, a quarter of Highfield USA’s business is generated from its Michigan facility, with the output set to double in 2025.
