Austrian personal watercraft manufacturer, Belassi GmbH, has introduced its new Marine Power Unit (MPU).
The MPU is the powertrain of Belassi’s Burrasca PWC and for the first time is being introduced as a separate unit to small boat builders.
The turbocharged engine system, which the company says redefines power-to-weight performance for small watercraft and jet-driven vessels, is also now available in a 400hp varient as a result of a recent expansion of Belassi’s partnership with Garrett.
“Our primary goal is to provide a power train which is a solid base for innovative marine products,” explained Christopher Wilkinson, Belassi CEO.
The Belassi MPU is suitable for a wide range of vessels, including personal watercraft (PWC), jet boats up to 6m, military and tactical boats and yacht tenders and custom craft.
Hand-assembled
The unit is hand-assembled in low-volume production in Austria and is available in three configurations — 260hp, 330hp, and the 400hp.
Key specifications of the MPU 3-cylinder, 4-stroke, turbocharged marine engine include a 1602cc displacement, peak power of up to 400hp with a power-to-weight ratio of up to 3.38hp/kg and a copression ration of 9.1:1.
The engine measures 100 x 54 x 59cm (l x w x h) and weighs 118kg.
Cooling is via an open-loop system with water injection and turbo options are via a Mitsubishi MHI TD04 or a Garrett G25-550.
The complete drivetrains can be packaged to include the jet pump and shaft, alternator, throttle lever, brake/reverse system, touch screen display with GPS and fuel system.
The unit is designed to be connected via plug and play and comes with a wire harness, ECU, starter relay, and a 5in touchscreen display as standard with a 7in screen as an option.
Optional upgrades also include a jet pump with driveshaft, hydraulic trim, fuel tank, and GPS-enabled display systems.
