Construction is well underway on a new €20 million 11,000sqm facility for Marex Boats at its Kaunas, Lithuania, shipyard.
The new factory is being purpose-built so the Scandinavian company will be able to built larger hulls, carry out smarter production and develop the next generation of Marex boats.
The new facility will be run alongside the boatbuilder’s existing 28,000sqm of production space and is scheduled to be completed in winter 2027.
Key features of the new facility which was first announced in 2024 will include automated component delivery using compact twin vertical automatic warehouses from Weland Solutions to bring the right part to the right worker when it is needed.
There will also be a 50-metre testing pool — the second in the factory – built to accommodate Marex’s largest models and a dedicated showroom where partners, dealers, customers and press can experience the full Marex range.
Building the right infrastructure
“For the first time, we’ll have the capacity in Lithuania to build three-deck vessels close to 55ft,” explained Saulius Pajárskas, general manager, Marex Boats.
“But this isn’t just about space — it’s about building the right infrastructure: hull testing, automated warehousing, a proper showroom, and energy systems that can support it all.
“A smart factory, built for what comes next.”
The factory is being constructed with environmental features such as solar and geothermal power generation incorporated.
These include a 350kW solar panel park supported by a 222kW Viessmann geothermal heat pump for efficient heating and cooling.
The project is expected to create up to 100 new jobs in the Kaunas region.
