Aquila 45 Sail debuts at Cannes

Aquila Catamarans has launched the second model in its sailing range with the Aquila 45 Sail, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2026.

The 45 Sail follows the Aquila 50 Sail and continues the company’s move into dedicated sailing catamarans, combining the space-led layout associated with its power range with sailing capability for private and charter use.

At 47ft 2in overall, with a 25ft 5in beam, the model offers three- or four-cabin layouts, each with private entrances and en-suite heads with showers. It can sleep up to 12 guests, while an optional forepeak crew cabin gives owners further flexibility.

The fixed bow adds seating and a sun pad, while Aquila’s bridge-to-bow access links the foredeck with the open flybridge helm area. The flybridge includes U-shaped seating, a coffee table and forward-facing settee, creating another social space underway.

The aft cockpit is arranged around a dining table for up to eight people, with a bar area, BBQ/plancha station and lounge seating. A sliding aluminium door and slide-down bar window connect the cockpit directly with the saloon and galley.

Inside, panoramic windows bring light into the saloon, which seats six around an L-shaped settee. The galley includes a full-size French-door refrigerator, induction cooktop and Corian worktops.

Sail plan

The sail plan uses a two-spreader sectional mast rising 70ft 7in above the waterline, with a full mainsail and furling genoa giving 1,351.9sqft of upwind sail area. Options include a square-top mainsail and a 1,200sqft gennaker.

Standard auxiliary power comes from twin Volvo Penta 50hp saildrives, with 60hp Volvo Penta or 57hp Yanmar options. A C-Zone digital switching system monitors and controls power, water and waste from multiple stations.

The hull, deck and bulkheads use resin-infused vinylester construction, with no wood in structural components.

“The 45 Sail cements Aquila’s place as a sailing catamaran brand,” said Jean Raas, chief product officer and CEO of Aquila USA.

“We now have two sailing models, with more in the pipeline, and the response from the market has been encouraging.”

He added: “Owners today want a boat that performs properly under sail, but with Aquila, they can also enjoy space and comfort that we have perfected for our power models. The 45 Sail delivers both, and the layout flexibility means it works just as well in a charter fleet as it does for private owners.”
