French electric propulsion specialist TEMO has revealed its new 700W T700 outboard which introduces the company’s Open Machine Design approach. First deliveries scheduled for April 2027.
Designed for tenders, fishing boats and other lightweight craft weighing up to one tonne, depending on hull design, the T700 produces 18kg of static thrust. Its removable 594Wh battery provides approximately one hour of operation at full speed.
The complete outboard weighs 10kg, including the 3kg battery. Equipment includes a brushless direct-drive motor, onboard display, twist-grip forward and reverse throttle, adjustable shaft and tilt, foldable tiller and quick-lock clamp-on transom mount. It is rated IP67 and will be available with five additional colour options.
Open Machine Design
The Open Machine Design approach has led to two aluminium side plates forming the structure, while the motor, controller, battery, display and throttle are arranged as separate accessible modules.
The company says this should allow individual parts to be maintained, repaired or replaced without discarding the full outboard.
The removable battery can be replaced as a complete module, and the wider architecture is intended to accept future component upgrades.
“We believe repairability should be designed in, not added afterwards,” said Alexandre Seux, co-founder and chief executive of TEMO.
“A single component should never make an entire outboard obsolete. Parts should be replaceable, technology upgradeable and repairs possible locally whenever possible.”
Reduced component count
TEMO says the simplified architecture and reduced component count should also make assembly more efficient while retaining European production.
The T700 will make its world premiere at Metstrade in Amsterdam which runs from 17 to 19 November 2026 and has been entered for the DAME Design Awards.
