New Genoa Nautical Hub opens

A new 16,000-square-metre Nautical Hub has opened in Genoa, bringing together the Gatti and Genoa Sea Service boatyards with North Sails’ local sailmaking headquarters.

The shared facility includes a two-storey industrial building, with the two boatyards on the ground floor and the sail loft above.

It also provides 1,000 square metres of equipped quays, a launch and haul-out basin, a 140-tonne travel lift, 5,300 square metres of water area and 356 linear metres of technical quay.

The project is intended to give the three established businesses shared infrastructure while allowing each to retain its identity and operational independence.

The partners said the arrangement would support larger projects, improve logistics and extend the services available within this part of the Port of Genoa.

Increased capacity

For Gatti and Genoa Sea Service, the new configuration increases capacity for refit work both ashore and afloat, including vessels larger than those previously handled. North Sails’ move places its Genoa headquarters close to the city’s waterfront and marina, giving customers easier access to sailmaking support.

“Amico Marine is participating in the Hub through Gatti, a company acquired in 2024 specifically with the aim of completing the range of services offered in the refit sector, extending it to medium-sized vessels,” said Andrea Amico, business developer at Amico Marine.

He added that the Hub would complement the professional marine cluster developing around the Port of Genoa and the Eastern Waterfront.

Vittorio Gatti, operations manager at Gatti, said: “Being a key player in the Nautical Hub project confirms our determination to look ahead and enables us to strengthen our position in the market, combining our shipyard’s tradition of professionalism with modern logistics.”

Gatti has operated in the area for more than 50 years. Its facilities at the Hub include covered refit sheds, workshops, a joinery and offices. The commissioning of the new travel lift also required an expansion of the hauling basin.

The shipyard says future plans include electrification of the quays and further investment in technical berths.
