Sunpower Yachts acquires Alva Yachts

German boatbuilder Alva Yachts has been acquired by Australian yacht dealer and designer Sunpower Yachts International.

The acquisition brings together two solar-electric yacht developers, in a move that designed to integrate Sunpower’s experience in solar yacht production with the technological experience of Alva Yachts.

The goal is to enhance Sunpower Yachts’ presence in the solar electric yacht market and further develop its range of zero-emission vessels with the aim of being the ‘undisputed leader in the solar electric yacht industry’.

Sunpower Yachts has been producing solar-powered catamarans and energy-efficient systems since 2018.

Alva Yachts develops solar-electric yacht designs incorporating hydrodynamic hulls and battery storage systems.

“This acquisition marks a pivotal moment in the yachting industry,” explained Grant Hudson, director of Sunpower Yachts International.

Fully sustainable future

“Alva Yachts has been a key innovator in sustainable yachting with 11 yacht sales to date, and by bringing their expertise under the Sunpower umbrella, we are not only expanding our portfolio but redefining what is possible in the world of clean, luxury maritime travel.

He adds: “Together, we will lead the charge toward a fully sustainable future on the seas.”

Once the companies are integrated, Sunpower says it will offer a range of craft from mid-sized electric catamarans to ultra-luxurious, transoceanic solar-electric megayachts.

There is also the possibility of hydrogen powered craft.

Alva Yachts is known for building luxury electric and solar-powered catamarans and sailing yachts, with the integration of advanced battery storage and hydrodynamic hull technology.

The company emerged from PICA Yachts in 2020 to focus on environmentally friendly and efficient yachting.

Operations are planned to continue across Europe, North America, Australia and Asia.

Sunpower’s current product range includes smart energy management systems, hydro generation capabilities and high-efficiency solar panels.
