British Olympic medallist appointed US team sailing director

American Racing Challenger Team USA has appointed Giles Scott as sailing director.

The appointment comes as the team gears up to compete in the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup.

The 39-year-old British double Olympic gold medallist and four-time Finn Gold Cup winner will report directly to team CEO Ken Read, bringing his elite-level racing experience and technical insight to the campaign.

The team says Scott’s appointment underlines its ambitions as it builds toward one of the most competitive America’s Cups in recent history.

He will play an integral role in shaping the team’s sailing programme and performance strategy, working closely with leadership and crew as preparations intensify.

Official challenger

American Racing Challenger Team USA, representing Challenging Yacht Club Sail Newport, is the official challenger for the next edition of the America’s Cup.

The team was founded by entrepreneurs Karel Komárek and Chris Welch and led by Ken Read, a two-time Rolex Yachtsman of the Year.

Accomplished sailor
