VMG Astilleros de Sagunto (VMG) has completed the installation of the world’s largest yacht-dedicated shiplift drydock at its Sagunto, Spain, facility.
The installation follows on from a modernisation and expansion programme carried out at the shipyard.
The new system was manufactured and supplied by Pearlson Shiplift Corporation (PSC) and features a lifting platform measuring 102 metres in length and 22 metres wide.
It will be able to accommodate yachts up to 125 metres in length.
Shipyard infrastructure
Once lifted, vessels will be transferred to land-level repair berths using rubber-tyred self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs).
The platform incorporates PSC’s proprietary continuous platform structure which has been developed to enable the system to operate as a single lifting unit while maintaining structural integrity and precision.
The shiplift is equipped with a PLC control system and monitors block loading along the full length of the platform.
Real-time data is provided to the dockmaster for optimal safety, balance and vessel protection during lifting, lowering and transfer operations.
