Turkish marine manufacturer Data Hidrolik is to double its production capacity with a US$6.3 million investment in a new factory.
The updated facility will see an additional 5,000 square metres added to Data Hidrolik’s existing 5,000-square-metre indoor production facility, bringing the total production area to 10,000 square metres.
As part of the investment, the company, which manufactures a range of steering systems, windlasses, winches for a variety of vessels, will enhance its R&D and testing infrastructure while also strengthening its after-sales service operations, with a new subsidiary, DHMS (Data Hidrolik Marine Services).
The subsidiary will see Data Hidrolik separating its after-sales service and spare parts operations from its manufacturing activities, a move intended to enable the after-sales processes to be managed quicker and more efficiently.
The company says the move will also allow it to respond to customer requirements in shorter timeframes and allow production units to give closer focus to their core activities.
Higher-tonnage vessels
The new facilities will enable Data Hidrolik to meet growing production requirements, shorten delivery times and develop products for higher-tonnage vessels.
“We do not view our new factory investment solely as an increase in physical capacity,” explained Cem Hüroğlu, member of the board of directors at Data Hidrolik.
“Alongside our production facility, we are expanding our testing areas and R&D centre to develop products that meet the requirements of higher-tonnage vessels.
“Ranking first in the Ancillary Industry Exports category for three consecutive years — in 2023, 2024 and 2025 — at the ‘Award On Water’ ceremony organised by the Turkish Ship, Yacht and Services Exporters’ Association is a tangible indicator of the level we have reached in exports.
“With this new investment, we aim to respond to higher-volume export orders, expand our product range and deliver orders in shorter timeframes.”
The company also plans to expand further into the defence market with additional technical infrastructure and expanded engineering capacity provided by our new facility.
“Once the investment becomes operational, we expect to undertake larger-scale defence and commercial projects while creating new employment opportunities across our production, engineering, R&D and support departments,” concluded Cem.
