Bainbridge International acquires Ocean Rodeo

Bainbridge International has completed the acquisition of the operating assets of Ocean Rodeo from Aluula Composites Inc.

Ocean Rodeo is a growing company in the kite and wing sport markets, patenting several new products as well as being the launch brand for ALUULA Composites, a high-performance ultra-light composite fabric for inflatable wings and kites.

Ocean Rodeo is currently working on its 2025 product range with a projected date of March 2025 for availability for customers.

The existing Ocean Rodeo designs have been completed under the supervision of Ross Harrington who served as the brands chief designer for more than 20 years prior continuing his work with ALUULA, supporting the design efforts of its windsports customers.

Ross will continue to support Bainbridge during the transition period ahead of the relaunch in 2025.

Bainbridge, based near Southampton in the UK will provide commercial and customer support services alongside its other marine activities, which include being a leading sailcloth and technical fabrics company.

The opportunity to work with great brands doesn’t come along very often.

Ocean Rodeo will be managed by David Mead whose career has included co-leading the North Kiteboard business, lead the Neil Pryde windsurfing brand and run the Pryde Group manufacturing facility in China.

“It gives us great pleasure to see the Ocean Rodeo brand in such capable hands for the future,” said Sage Berryman, CEO and president of ALUULA. “As the launch brand for ALUULA, Ocean Rodeo is an important part of our history, and we look forward to continuing to work with David and the rest of his team as a customer of ALUULA.”

David added: “The opportunity to work with great brands doesn’t come along very often and to be able to be an owner of a brand like Ocean Rodeo, which has literally changed the face of the sport, is a great honour.

“I’m looking forward to working with the team at Bainbridge to bring great product to all existing brand fans and hopefully some new ones too.”

ALUULA will continue to focus on its composite material business.

Under the terms of the Agreement, Bainbridge will acquire the Ocean Rodeo brand and trade name, marketing collateral, website, design files for Ocean Rodeo products, and specific intellectual property.

Bainbridge will pay an upfront cash payment alongside a three-year revenue sharing arrangement, beginning March 1, 2025.

A statement from ALUULA said Bainbridge has also agreed to negotiate minimum annual purchase volumes of ALUULA materials in order to support the relaunch of Ocean Rodeo branded products in the spring of 2025.
