£6 million awarded for decarbonisation projects

Poole Harbour Commissioners has been awarded a share of £6 million to deliver a decarbonisation plan for the area.

The money will be used to support place-based decarbonisation plans that demonstrate collaboration between closely located industrial businesses, and other stakeholders.

PHC will work in collaboration with seven other partners including Jenkins Marine, SMS Group and Sunseeker International, and maritime consultants Royal Haskoning DHV, to develop a decarbonisation plan for the Port of Poole centred around the Port of Poole estate.

The project will develop a baseline emissions inventory and a set of targets and project options for reducing emissions.

“We are delighted to have been awarded a share of £6m to deliver an ambitious Decarbonisation Plan for the Port of Poole Maritime Industrial Cluster,” said Captain Brian Murphy, CEO of Poole Harbour Commissioners. “Decarbonisation is a strategic objective of our masterplan vision for the future.

He added: “The Port of Poole Cluster is made of innovative and fast-growing maritime businesses, who coming together with Bournemouth University and Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council, are keen to develop a common vision for decarbonisation and making sure it is tied into the plans for decarbonisation for the wider area.”

The funding is from the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plans Funding Competition run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in collaboration with Innovate UK – UK Research and Innovation.
