Marine Chandlery acquires South Devon chandlery assets

Marine Chandlery has acquired the assets of South Devon’s Bayside Marine chandlery.

Marine Chandlery, previously Storrar Marine, launched earlier in 2024 after being acquired by West Nautical.

Bayside Marine began life as Becconsall Fishing Gear Supplies providing goods to commercial fishing fleets from its store in Brixham.

Bayside Marine was established in 1998 and expanded to begin supporting the local leisure market. An online marketplace was also launched.

The acquisition of Bayside Marine’s assets is said to mark a new milestone in Marine Chandler’s growth journey.

“Marine Chandlery remains committed to delivering exceptional service and a comprehensive range of marine products,” said Geoff Moore, owner of Marine Chandlery.

“Customers can look forward to continued innovation and growth as the company builds on its strong foundation.”

Teresa Louth, who was appointed Bayside Marine MD in 2001, put the business up for sale in July 2023 due to a combination of ill health and the loss of two key team members.

At the time she said: “I have run the business for 25 years this year and after much deliberation I have decided to take a permanent break from the business and readdress my work life balance and things I’d like to do after I recover.

“With this in mind, and with a heavy heart I am going to sell the business if possible. It is time for someone with the drive and ambition to take the business on and grow it.”

She added: “It is definitely the right time for me personally and professionally to hand the baton over to someone else.”

In a statement, Marine Chandlery said it is committed to upholding the spirit of Bayside Marine by offering its product range and continuing its dedication to quality and service.

“Bayside Marine was built on a foundation of expertise, passion, and care for the boating community,” said the statement. “From its roots in Brixham, it grew to become one of the Southwest’s largest independent marine chandlers.”

The physical Brixham store will not be reopening. The product range will be available at Marine Chandlery.
