The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has opened an investigation into the death of Mark Glover, a volunteer crewmember on board the Tall Ship Pelican of London.
The incident took place while the sail training vessel, owned by the youth development charity Seas Your Future, was moored at Sharpness Shipyard, situated at the head of the Bristol Channel.
It is understood that Mark fell from a gangway on October 2 2023.
In a statement, the charity said: “The trustees and staff of the youth development charity, Seas Your Future, are extremely sad to report the death of Mark Glover.
“Mark sadly died whilst volunteering as a member of the crew of the tall ship Pelican of London, at Sharpness Shipyard. He had been working with colleagues to prepare the ship for departure on its annual six-month winter voyage later this month.”
The statement continued: “Mark was a highly valued and much-loved volunteer member of our team and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. At this time, we send our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.”

Seas Your Future is working closely with statutory agencies, including the MAIB.
The charity offers young people sail training, maritime careers, and ocean science voyages for personal and character development.
It was founded in 2008 to support the development of young people, building resilience, self-confidence, and independence.
Pelican of London sails for 46-48 weeks each year with up to 35 young trainees and 12 professional crew and volunteers.
Sharpness Shipyard provides drydocking, repair and general maintenance facilities for vessels of up to 103 metres in length.
