GORI Propeller is to launch its new GORI Hybrid Propeller in 2025.
The propeller is said to be the first folding propeller that allows sailors to switch between sailing performance and regeneration modes.
The propeller is patent pending and based on the same platform as the DAME Design Award winning GORI 3-Blade Propeller for sailing boats with an added feature to optimise it for electric and hybrid propulsion.
GORI has developed an integrated locking system to keep the blade open when regeneration is a priority.
There is also a mechanism to release the blades, so they are folded when performance under sail is a priority.
Extensive testing
Boat handling and manoeuvrability are the same as per GORI’s standard three-blade propeller.
“Using the GORI 3-Blade Propeller for regeneration is not new, customers have been using our original propeller for several years now, but it’s not optimised for this purpose,” explained Lars Østergaard senior vice president sales at GORI Propeller.
“Extensive testing has been conducted both here in Haderslev, Denmark and with a manufacturer of electric propulsion.
“We are delighted with the results and it’s time for us to tell the world that effective regeneration with a folding propeller is possible.”
The GORI Hybrid Propeller 3-Blade will be available for both shaft and saildrive, with diameters from 18in to 30in.
The propeller will be available to preview at METSTRADE 2024.
Gori Propellers was established in 1975 and is part of the BSI Marine Equipment Group.
