RECARBON and Northern Lights Composites (nlcomp) have announced a collaboration, aimed at pioneering sustainable solutions in marine engineering.
The partnership will focus on the development of innovative solutions for sustainable boating.
By pooling together their expertise and resources, the two will integrate NLCompboats with RECARBON’s recycled carbon fibre products.
“This collaboration underscores our joint dedication to making a tangible positive impact on both the environment and the marine industry,” said RECARBON in a statement.
“Together, we are forging a path towards a more sustainable future for marine products and beyond.”
First recyclable production boat
NLComp has already successfully tested RECARBON products on its first 30ft sailing yacht, the Ecoracer30 and for a Dock Box.
The Ecoracer30 is the world’s first recyclable production boat. The craft is designed by yacht designer Matteo Polli and incorporates nlcomp’s sustainable composite material, rComposite.
By replacing traditional thermosetting resins with a thermoplastic matrix, nlcomp has enabled easy chemical processing and raw material recovery, ensuring that the boat can be recycled at the end of its lifecycle.
nlcomp is also currently designing the first model in its eco yachts brand dedicated to performance cruising yachts. The eco36 will also be designed by Matteo Polli.
RECARBON has developed a functional approach for manufacturing both prepregs and thermoplastic intermediate products from recycled carbon fuels while nlcomp aims to revolutionise the composite market with technological innovations, reuse of raw materials and reduction of waste.
