Burgess opens Newport Beach office

Burgess has opened an office in Newport Beach, Orange County, US, taking its network to five locations in the United States and 19 worldwide. Financial terms, staffing numbers and investment in the new site have not been disclosed.

The location gives the superyacht services group a permanent base in Southern California, close to Newport Beach’s marinas and yacht clubs. Burgess said the office will support clients across California and the wider western United States.

Services will include yacht brokerage, charter, yacht management, new construction and advisory work. The Newport Beach team will also draw on Burgess’ international network for transactions, operational support and projects involving clients or yachts in other markets.

Founded in 1975, Burgess specialises in yachts over 100ft and provides brokerage, charter, new construction, management, crew and insurance services. Its other US offices include Palm Beach, Aspen, Miami and New York.

Established boating market

The expansion follows Burgess’ wider move into locations with concentrations of private wealth and established luxury markets. Newport Beach has significant activity in high-value residential property, private investment, finance and family offices, alongside an established boating market.

“Having grown up in Newport Beach, I have a deep personal appreciation for this community and its unique position as the West Coast’s yachting capital,” said Kevin Kramer, yacht broker at Burgess.

“Bringing our firm’s international reach to my hometown allows us to provide world-class expertise to our Southern California clients right in their own backyard.”

Jonathan Beckett, chief executive of Burgess, said: “Southern California has long been one of the world’s leading luxury lifestyle and yachting markets, and Newport Beach sits at the heart of it.”

And he said a permanent presence would bring the company closer to regional clients and support demand for yacht ownership and charter.
