Dubai commercial shipbuilder Grandweld Shipyards has launched Grandar Yachts, a dedicated division for steel and aluminium superyachts measuring 60 metres and above.
The first designs are the 60-metre Grandar 60 and 65-metre Grandar 65. Both will draw on commercial vessel platforms already developed by Grandweld. The first Grandar 60 is in development, with construction scheduled to start in 2027.
The move takes Grandweld into a market traditionally served by specialist superyacht yards. The company, which launched the new division at Monaco Yacht Show, plans to use its commercial, offshore, naval and support-vessel experience as the basis for yacht engineering, fabrication, project management and production.
Grandweld’s Dubai Maritime City site covers more than 55,000sqms and includes seven shipbuilding bays, 13,500sqms of covered production space, 20,000sqms for outfitting and assembly, and 31 docking berths. Lifting capacity is up to 6,000 tonnes, while the yard can accommodate vessels up to 130 metres.
Retaining control
More than 1,000 specialists work across engineering, fabrication and project management. Core activities handled within the yard include steel and aluminium fabrication, CNC work, piping, mechanical integration, joinery, interior outfitting, electrical and automation systems, air-conditioning, blasting and painting.
Grandweld says it will use selected UAE and international partners where specialist yacht expertise is required, while retaining control of construction, quality and delivery. Its existing repair and maintenance services currently provide drydocking, afloat repairs and technical support after delivery.
Established in 1984, Grandweld has built more than 100 aluminium vessels and over 47 steel vessels up to 80 metres. Its portfolio includes crewboats, security and pilot boats, ferries, offshore support vessels, workboats and tugs, as well as shadow-yacht and yacht upgrade work.
The new division adds a large-yacht construction offer to Dubai’s growing marina, refit, repair, management, charter and brokerage sector.
