Oceanco acquires Dutch components manufacturer

Oceanco has acquired the Dutch marine solutions specialist Winel.

The latest acquisition by Oceanco will further expand its capabilities across the design construction of yacht building.

Winel supplies a range of custom-made and standardised solutions for the maritime industry and includes the companies Staalart and Yachtsupport.

The acquisition expands the Oceanco Group which also includes Alewijnse, Aluship, Lateral and Mercury.

The components developed and produced by Winel play an increasingly important role in Oceanco yachts.

Complex lifting equipment

The two organisations began collaborating in the late 1990s with complex lifting equipment on the Oceanco yacht, Al Mirqab.

The most recent partnership was with the adjustable hinge on Leviathan’s hull doors that stay horizontal to the deck, in order to accommodate different sea conditions.

“Together with Gabe Newell, we are building the yachts of the future.

“With the addition of Winel to the Oceanco Group, we can continue working on new innovations in the field of one of the most complex components of an Oceanco yacht,” says Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco CEO.

Groundbreaking solutions

Winel was founded in 1956 and is headquartered in Assen, the Netherlands, where its main production facility is located.

The company manufactures equipment including tank vent check valves, manually operated doors and hatches, watertight sliding doors and hull doors, supplying to yacht projects and also to commercial shipping and offshore sectors.

The company will continue these activities, with the same team in place.

“Our doors and hatches are known for their reliability under the harshest conditions, and the same applies to our relationship with Oceanco,” said Ake van der Vinne, Winel CEO.

“Together with the other partners within the Group, we will develop groundbreaking solutions for the maritime industry.”
