Wildfires destroy Catana Group assembly lines

Two buildings housing the assembly lines for the Catana Group’s BALI 5.8 and CATANA OC 50 have been destroyed by flames following severe wild fires in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, and the surrounding area.

The spread of the intense fires was accelerated by unfavourable drought and wind conditions, however, the efficiency of state and municipal services enabled the evacuation of all personnel from companies within the nautical hub, preventing any injuries or loss of life.

Employees worked throughout the night to move the boat moulds to safety and this together with the efforts of the firefighters saved the moulds for both the models.

The site’s polyester workshop was also saved.

Precise assessment

In a statement, Catana Group says the situation remains uncertain, with vigilance still required given the continued high-risk weather conditions.

The company’s next step will be to conduct a precise assessment of material damage and the extent of the operational impact, as well as to evaluate potential measures for resuming operations in coordination with the relevant state authorities and the Group’s insurers.

Catana Group will issue a further update when it has carried out a more precise assessment of the situation.
