North Sails has relocated its Mediterranean facility, opening a new, larger repair loft in Fréjus on the Côte d’Azur in France.
The move follows 22 years in Mouans-Sartoux.
The new loft is located on the motorway, close to Saint-Tropez and La Ciotat and within reach of Cannes, Nice and the wider coast.
The new loft will expand the scope of what the team can take on. At around 700sqm it dwarfs the previous location, and enables the team to now service sails for yachts of 130 feet and upwards.
Equipment at the loft includes two rotating sewing pits and an overhead crane, allowing larger, heavier sails to be easily moved and worked on safely.
Key strategic alternative
The new loft will carry out sail repairs and servicing on a range of sails from dinghy sails to superyacht inventories.
The loft will also provide storage for sail wintering – a service North Sails points out remains relatively rare in the Mediterranean and meets growing demand from both owners and yacht management companies.
“We aim to become a key strategic alternative between Palma and Italy for the superyacht and classic yacht markets,” explained Laurent Mahy, loft manager.
And he added that the ambition is twofold: to look after North Sails’ long-standing cruising and club-racing clients, while building on the loft’s new strength with larger yachts.
