Yacht builder opens funding round

UK boatbuilder Archipelago Expedition Yachts has opened an initial seed investment round.

The company, which is based on the Isle of Wight, has five Archipelago yachts in its range – from the Archipelago 40 to the helicopter-carrying Archipelago 80 plus the Twisted T47 Explorer.

The boatbuilder was founded by Dr Stephen Weatherley who says he wanted more from boating with more adventure, more space, more exciting design, more sustainability, and more accessibility for those who are less able to access the traditional yachting market.

Each vessel in the range is built from low-impact aluminium and designed as a hybrid, ocean-capable motor catamaran.

The funding is intended to allow the company to continue its innovation and sustainability development, working towards offering cleaner, more sustainable marine transportation.

“This is a pivotal moment in the journey of Archipelago Yachts,” said Dr Weatherley. “The funding will allow us to further develop our zero-carbon technology, particularly the hybrid propulsion and methanol fuelling solutions.”

He added: “We are aiming for carbon-neutral long-distance propulsion by 2040, and this investment round will allow us to accelerate our pathway towards this goal.

“In addition, plans for this investment will allow us to increase our marketing activities, grow our presence in other markets such as the Americas and increase our team headcount.”

Archipelago works alongside naval architects Chartwell Marine.
