GX42 debuts with 938kWh hybrid system

GX Superyachts has presented the GX42, the first yacht in its 42-metre series following the yacht’s world debut at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026.

Built by SES Shipyard, with design by Marco Casali and naval architecture and engineering input from NAMES, the raised-pilothouse yacht uses a parallel diesel-electric hybrid system.

Two MAN main engines retain a mechanical connection to conventional shaftlines, while integrated electric machines can support propulsion and onboard power requirements.

The installation includes 24 lithium iron phosphate battery modules with a combined nominal capacity of about 938kWh, plus approximately 27kWp of photovoltaic generation.

GX Superyachts says the arrangement could provide up to 48 hours of zero-emission operation at anchor and reduce onboard electricity consumption by up to 45%.

Actual performance will depend on hotel loads, air-conditioning demand, weather, battery charge and solar output.

Propulsion demand

Project data indicates an economical cruising speed of around nine knots and a range of more than 5,000 nautical miles.

The hull and energy-management system are designed to reduce propulsion demand and unnecessary engine or generator use.

“Efficiency should be engineered into the yacht from the outset, rather than added afterwards through individual technologies,” said Vladimir Zinchenko, chief executive and founder of GX Superyachts.

“For us, that is the real innovation of GX42 – technology that improves the experience without becoming the experience itself.”

The five-cabin arrangement includes a full-beam owner’s suite on the main deck with a private foredeck terrace.

A lower-deck VIP suite has a fold-down balcony, alongside three further guest cabins. Main and upper-deck social areas include dining for 10, a saloon, loungers, sunbeds, a bar and a Jacuzzi.

Casali used walnut, Italian leather, stone and neutral fabrics throughout the interior.

“We worked closely with the owners to realise their priorities for a family-friendly design that favours extended periods on board,” said Zinchenko.
