TYDE is to collaborate with BMW on a second electric-powered luxury yacht.
THE OPEN is a large hydrofoil luxury yacht for private individuals, billed as representing a new class of innovative watercraft providing a revolutionized user experience, the most advanced automotive technology, radical innovations, and progressive design.
The announcement follows on from BMW and TYDE’s presentation of their first collaboration, THE ICON, at the Cannes Film Festival.
This latest vessel combines a futuristic appearance with a spacious design, having been designed to provide a luxurious and comfortable experience for users.
Like the ICON, THE OPEN will again glide over the water via hydrofoiling to achieve significant energy savings through drag reduction.
The tandem foiling system on the craft stems from America’s Cup technology that has evolved into a new generation of high-efficiency computer-managed foils and rudders.
The craft is 14.8m in length and 4.5m in width with a flush deck with a two-seater helm station, a sheltered galley with a seating area, a double sunbed at the stern, and a relaxation area on the foredeck.
The vessel is battery powered, with a battery capacity of 400kWh which powers a pair of 100kW motors that will give a range of 50 nautical miles. The maximum speed will be 30 knots.
There is a full-surface solar roof which helps power the batteries.
