River Canal Rescue marine engineer Paul Drummie has died following a battle with cancer.
Paul, who covered the south and London area, worked for many companies during his long career within the marine industry and at one time owned his own marine engineering business.
“Paul was an integral part of the southern engineering team – he was well-liked, very easy to get along with and a true professional, looking after our customers as well as having a great talent for engineering,” said RCR MD, Stephanie Horton. “He will be sorely missed by all the team and not easily replaceable.”
She added: “We are devastated; his cancer diagnosis came as a shock and his short battle quickly resulted in palliative care at the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, in Stoke-on-Trent, where he sadly passed away, a few months later.”
Former colleagues and friends have paid tribute to Paul, with Chris Bennett saying: “I was shocked and saddened to hear of Paul’s passing.
“We worked together at Pyford Marina; I worked in sales and Paul was a fantastic engineer with a particular talent in finding what was wrong very quickly and working out the most economical and effective solution to fix the problem.
“Paul made a lot of good friends within the industry as a mobile engineer. I’m very sad that you have passed away mate and I will always remember ‘lefty loosey, righty tighty’ and ‘If it falls off, pick it up and somebody else can use it.’ Rest in peace.”
Steve Hughes from Tingdene Marinas, which owns and runs Pyford Marina, also has memories of Paul:
“He was with Pyford Marina for quite a few years and worked very well with the team. He will be sadly missed, and our condolences go to his friends and family.”
