RAD Propulsion partners with Stephens Waring Design

RAD Propulsion is to partner with Maine based Stephens Waring Design on a project to produce a new 26ft electric commuter boat, Isobel.

Due to launch in Autumn 2024 and designed with classic 1950s aesthetics, Isobel will be fitted with the RAD 40 drive which fits into the boat’s hull.

The craft measures 26ft, 6in in length and has a beam of 7ft, 11in and is made from cedar strips sheathed in fiberglass with a low sheer line to make boarding from the side easier. There is also a stern platform for access and swimming.

“Stephens Waring came to us with this project looking for a drive and battery for an electric commuter boat, without compromising on performance, style or ease of operation,” said Pete Byford, RAD CTO. “We are delighted to partner with them, and Isobel is a beautiful boat that the RAD 40 compliments perfectly.”

And he explained that Stephens Waring’s client required an electric powered vessel that has plenty of utility, performance, and dependability.

In addition, ease of operation is important as the boat will mainly be used in a remote lake, where it will be far from any marina or fuel dock.

Isobel will be fitted with a RAD 55kWh battery pack that produces 350 volts, with a peak output of 330kW. The battery can be charged from 20% charge to 80% in under an hour.
