Pillar of French marine industry dies

Claude Alcouffe, a pillar of the French marine industry for more than three decades, has died.

In a statement, the French Nautical Industries Federation, said Claude had dedicated himself with passion and unwavering commitment to the nautical sector, actively contributing to its development and structure.

Claude entered the marine industry in the early 1980s as a young insurance professional, at the instigation of Jean-Pierre Jouet, who entrusted him with the task of insuring the Paris Boat Show.

He went on to found ANA (Auxiliaires Nouvelles Assurances), a company specialising in boating insurance, which was later integrated into the SATEC group.

Certification standard for recreational boating

As an administrator of the French Nautical Industries Federation for over 25 years, he played a pivotal role in structuring and gaining recognition for these activities within the federation, bringing together numerous stakeholders, particularly maritime experts.

Through his actions, he contributed to the creation of the certification standard for recreational boating experts, a significant step for the profession at the time.

Beyond the federation, in 2009, Claud participated in the creation of APER, an association in the management of end-of-life recreational boat dismantling, where he became a board member.

This organisation became a national eco-organisation in 2019, responsible for this mission.

Passion for the sea

Throughout his career, he also attended major marine industry events, providing services for the main trade and public shows, including the Paris Boat Show, the Cannes Yachting Festival, and the Grand Pavois in La Rochelle.

He also participated in the creation of the Fête du Nautisme (Festival of Nautical Activities), helping to promote his passion for the sea and marine leisure activities to a wider audience.

“Beyond his professional commitments, Claude Alcouffe was universally admired for his dynamism, generosity, perpetual joie de vivre, eloquence, and interpersonal skills,” said a spokesperson for FIN.

Commitment and enthusiasm

“Many remember his ability to bring professionals together, particularly at the Paris Boat Show, where he excelled in the art of hospitality and event organisation, attracting numerous industry players to his stand.

“Through his commitment, enthusiasm and sense of community, Claude Alcouffe will have left a lasting mark on the nautical community.”
