Heesen Yachts has appointed Jeroen van der Meer as its new chief executive officer, effective September 2025.
The appointment is a key element of the Dutch shipyard’s strategy following its recent acquisition by new owner Laurens Last.
Jeroen succeeds Niels Vaessen, who will depart from his role as CEO in a mutual agreement with the shipyard following 13 years of service.
Jeroen brings a lifetime of maritime passion and extensive leadership experience to Heesen.
Complex manufacturing businesses
Jeroen grew up in Vlissingen immersed in the Dutch shipbuilding world – his father was a ship captain and then a maritime pilot – and developed a deep connection to the industry from a young age.
A mechanical engineer by background with an MBA from Eindhoven University, his career has been marked by a focus on strategic restructuring, investment, and fostering entrepreneurship within complex manufacturing businesses.
He is recognised for his ability to drive operational excellence by improving automation and implementing lean manufacturing principles, significantly enhancing efficiency and reducing time to market.
Heesen has expressed its gratitude to Niels for his service to the company, first as chief financial officer and subsequently as CEO.
