Yanmar Marine International will take direct responsibility for distributing its marine products in Italy from late in the fourth quarter of 2026, ending an exclusive distribution arrangement with Cartello that began in 1985.
The company said a direct presence would link Italian boatbuilders, dealers and owners more closely with its global organisation.
The change is intended to support faster responses to market requirements and closer co-ordination across sales, service, technical support and product development.
Yanmar also plans to develop its Italian dealer network and service capability.
“By establishing a direct presence in Italy, we can respond more quickly to market needs, strengthen technical and service support, and invest further in the growth of the Italian marine industry,” said Floris Lettinga, director of sales and marketing at Yanmar Marine International.
After-sales service
Yanmar said it is working with Cartello to maintain product availability, parts supply, technical assistance and after-sales service during the handover.
Following the transition, Cartello will remain in the network as an authorised Yanmar dealer and service partner from its base in Carasco, near Genoa.
Cartello has represented Yanmar marine engines in Italy for more than four decades, developing dealer and servicing coverage across the country.
The revised arrangement retains the distributor’s local sales and technical role while transferring national distribution responsibility to Yanmar.
Marine industry
“Cartello has been an exceptional partner and has made a significant contribution to the success of Yanmar Marine in Italy,” Lettinga said.
“Through their expertise, customer focus and passion for the marine industry, they have established a strong foundation for the Yanmar brand.”
Corrado Gaia, president of Cartello, said the company was proud of what its employees and dealer network had achieved with Yanmar.
“As an authorised Yanmar dealer and service partner, we will continue to stand by boat owners and to look after Yanmar engines with the same passion and care as always,” he said.
