Multi-million boatyard expansion completed

Svendsen’s Bay Marine, has completed a multi-million-dollar expansion and renovation of its Richmond, California, boatyard.

The investment nearly doubles the facility’s footprint to five acres and introducing state-of-the-art capabilities including California’s first indoor yacht paint booth.

“This expansion positions us to handle larger recreational and commercial vessels while exceeding local, state, and federal environmental compliance standards,” said Svendsen’s Bay Marine president Bill Elliot.

“We are meeting growing demand from both recreational and commercial clients.”

Key new features include a high-tech yacht paint booth designed to be eco-friendly and able to accommodate vessels up to up to 75ft.

There is also a new remote-controlled 100-ton capacity travel lift and expanded engine, rigging, and metal shops.

In addition, the investment has covered new floating docks and extended berths for larger vessels, a new large boat shop for major refits and new builds, a dedicated mast rigging and repair zone and an enlarged marine supply store.

Sustainability is central to the yard’s redesign, explained a Svendsen’s Bay Marine spokesperson.

Upgrades have included a drainage system overhaul and stormwater treatment plant that filters water to potable quality ensuring zero discharge into the bay.

The new paint booth features HEPA filtration, capturing overspray and particulates, and all infrastructure exceeds local, state, and federal environmental compliance standards.

The boatyard serves a range of clients, including the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Coast Guard, California Maritime Academy, Hornblower Cruises, California State Parks and San Francisco Police Department.

The boatyard, founded in 1963, provides services for both commercial and recreational vessels.
