New Zealand based Extreme Boats is entering a new chapter having undergone a change in ownership.
The aluminium boatbuilder has been acquired by a consortium led by James Horman who is also managing director of Auckland based Yamaha Marine dealership and boat broker Farnley’s Yamaha.
“Beside me will be the existing management team including the workshop manager Andrew, the fitout manager Brad and the office manager Janie who together have over 41 years’ experience in the company,” explained James.
“Behind us all the skilled teams including our designers, fabricators, fit out technicians, upholsterers and painters that make everything come together.”
On behalf of our team, I’d like to extend our gratitude to Glenn and Di Shaw for establishing the incredible legacy they’ve created.

Extreme Boats was founded by Glenn and Di Shaw more than 20 years ago, operating out of a shed on a dairy farm in Whakatane.
Over the last couple of decades, the couple have built up and developed the business in a market that was traditionally dominated by fibreglass boats.
Earlier in 2025, Extreme Boats launched a new division – Proline Alloy – a range of simplified boats for those entering the boating ladder.
Extreme Boats currently employs more than 50 staff and produces around 150 boats a year.
Unrivalled passion
Boats are built by an in-house team from design, CNC, fabrication, painting and upholstery and fit out.
The company’s dealer network spans New Zealand, Australia, Europe, New Caledonia and the US.
“On behalf of our team, I’d like to extend our gratitude to Glenn and Di Shaw for establishing the incredible legacy they’ve created which we will continue by driving innovation, leading build quality and maintaining the unrivalled passion and family build,” added James.
“We’re looking forward to the next chapter and the exciting journey that lies ahead.”
