Cule Marine has acquired New Zealand boat window and windscreen manufacturer Sandbrooks, expanding its product portfolio across windows, hatches, marine blinds and boat-care products.
Sandbrooks was established by Colin and Peggie Sandbrook in the late 1960s, initially producing windscreens for small runabouts.
The business later expanded into windows and doors for vessels ranging from dinghies to superyachts, supplying major and smaller original equipment manufacturers across New Zealand.
Cule Marine, also based in New Zealand, said it was ‘honoured to carry that legacy forward’ and confirmed that Sandbrooks’ existing team would remain in place.
Strategic planning
Glen Sandbrook will continue with the business as technical adviser, supporting customers with product knowledge.
Ursula Hanson will oversee day-to-day operations across Sandbrooks’ window team in Wiri and Cule Marine’s hatch operation in Henderson. Scott Hanson will contribute to business development and strategic planning for the combined company.
“It’s very much business as usual with the same trusted team,” said Cule Marine.
Sandbrooks adapted its business as imported boats increased competition for New Zealand manufacturers. It began importing toughened glass windscreens from Taylor Made Systems before adding locally manufactured windshields using imported curved glass.
The company also operated for a period as Taylor Made Systems Pacific and continues to represent Taylor Made Systems in New Zealand.
Acquisitions
Cule Marine was founded in West Auckland in 2007 to provide locally manufactured hatches to New Zealand boatbuilders. The company was acquired by Scott and Ursula Hanson in 2018.
In 2023, Cule Marine acquired marine wholesaler MarineXpress, adding brands including PropOne, JustTeak, Duralac and Vibra-Stop. In 2026, the company became the New Zealand distributor for Dometic’s marine blind range.
The Sandbrooks acquisition brings window and windscreen production together with Cule Marine’s existing hatch, blind and maintenance-product activities.
