2nd Summit Capital has acquired Australian boat trailer manufacturers Dunbier Marine and Mackay Trailer Products, with plans to support investment in product development, manufacturing expertise and operational capacity across Australia and New Zealand.
The ownership change includes a leadership transition. Managing director Michelle Reid will retire following the acquisition, with general manager Andrew Murphy becoming chief executive.
The existing senior management and operational teams will remain in place.
The announcement centres on investment and continuity rather than changes to the brands or their day-to-day operations.
The companies said dealers, customers and supply chain partners would continue to receive support from the existing teams.
“For our family, ensuring the future of Dunbier and Mackay remains strong, secure, and true to its values was our highest priority,” said Reid.
New ownership
Dunbier was founded by Russell Dunbier in 1969 and acquired Mackay Multi Link in 2015, adding custom boat trailers to its range.
Together, the businesses have manufactured hundreds of thousands of trailers for dealer networks. Russell Dunbier continued working in the business until his death in 2025.
Murphy joined Dunbier in 2019 and will take responsibility for leading the companies under their new ownership, with maintaining service for customers central to the transition.
“Importantly, our entire senior management and operational management team remains in place.
“Our dealers, customers, and supply chain partners can expect complete continuity in day-to-day operations, backed by the same dedicated team they have trusted for years,” he said.
Jonathan Cutting, founder of 2nd Summit Capital, said the acquisition adds the businesses to the firm’s portfolio of Australian specialist manufacturers.
His stated priorities include preserving the brands’ reputation for quality and reliability while supporting their next phase of growth.
“We are pleased to bring Dunbier and Mackay into 2nd Summit Capital’s growing portfolio of Australian specialist manufacturing businesses,” he said.
