Marell Boats Sweden AB has been declared bankrupt at the Stockholm District Court.
Attorney Jakob Callmander at law firm Fylgia has been appointed bankruptcy administrator and is currently investigating the conditions for transferring the business and the assets included in it.
The yard was founded by Patrik Söderholm in 2006, who bought more than 25 years of experience in building aluminium boats and racing into the new family business.
Using his racing knowledge of hull shaping and engine tuning, Patrik focused on innovation and further developing his design knowledge, continuously testing new concepts on the water and designing a new boat concept.
The Marell M7 and M9 boats were launched in 2016 for the consumer market, paving the way for larger boats based on the same hull platform.
Declining turnover
The M15 boat was launched in 2019, designed for the high-performance patrol boat and workboat segments and a commercial tourist vessel followed in 2021, built in collaboration with Volvo Penta.
The company went on to deliver several boats to the police, coast guard and other authorities and made a name for itself for high-speed craft, with the M15 itself described as a sea ‘monster’ with its top speed of around 45 knots.
However, in recent years the company’s turnover has declined, dropping to around SEK 51 million in 2024 compared to SEK 93 million in 2023.
Marell Boats net sales also almost halved, dropping to SEK 37 million in 2024 from SEK 70.4 million the previous year, while short term liabilities increased from SEK 33.4 million to more than SEK 77.5 million.
