Work could start as soon as August 2024 to rebuild Florida’s Clearwater Beach Marina, however rebuilding work will cost more than double original estimates.
The cost of replacing the 165-berth marina is now set at $43.5 million; the budget set at the beginning of the design period in 2021 was $18 million following increases in construction costs and changes to the project’s scope.
City councillors have approved the project, but it requires a second vote in July 2024 due to a funding shortfall.
If approved, work could be completed by May 2026
Work would include a seawall replacement, marina utilities including EV charging stations and electric boat charging points, replacement of timber docks and the creation of a marina walk promenade.
Demolition and construction will be carried out in phases, with recreational boats removed during construction to enable commercial vessels to continue operating.
