Offshore sailing boat of the future revealed

Northern Light, a brand of Northern Light Composites (nlcom) has released more details about its new Offshore sailing yacht.

The Offshore 34 is due to be launched in Autumn 2025 and is billed as the offshore sailing boat of the future combining offshore design and sustainable, recyclable materials.

The company’s aim is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices in boat design and construction with the boats designed to provide high performance, reliability and a reduced environmental impact.

The new yacht is designed in collaboration with designers Gianluca Guelfi and Fabio D’Angeli – known for the Musa 40 yacht – and uses nlcomp’s rComposite technology for recyclable, high-performance construction.

The hull will be built with nlcomp’s thermoplastic technology to ensure a high-performance solution in line with the company’s principles of circularity and industrial sustainability.

The construction of the Offshore 34 prototype began in April 2025 with the design incorporating clean lines, a powerful bow and volumes designed to cope with offshore sailing.

“We wanted a boat capable of combining the design vision of the best Italian offshore designers with innovation in sustainable materials,” explained Fabio Bignolini, CEO and co-founder of nlcomp.

“The result is a concept that represents a step into the future of ocean sailing.”

The Offshore 34 is the first cruiser racer launched under the Northern Light brand and represents the culmination of nlcomp’s years of research and development.

Key features include a hull made by infusion with nlcomp technology without the use of gelcoat and a structural composite interior with recarbon panels for non-structural components.

Supercapacitor storage unit

The new Offshore 34 also incorporates a system developed by yachtpower.it that integrates an innovative supercapacitor storage unit instead of traditional lithium batteries, that is recyclable, rare-earth-free and reliable.

The Offshore 34 has an overall length of 10.35m, a maximum beam of 3.6m and a displacement of 3.6 tonnes.

The Offshore 34 project is funded by Invitalia’s Smart&Start programme.

Northern Light Composites (nlcomp), based in Italy, was founded in 2019.
