Gothenburg Boat Show is to close its doors for the last time after the February 2025 edition.
The show has been running since 1960 and attracts around 60,000 visitors annually, however organisers say while the show has developed over time, for various reasons it has not been profitable in recent years.
And organsiers say the decision to no longer arrange the boat show is based on an overall assessment of the situation in the boating industry, the economy, new buying patterns and the demand and needs that exist.
Despite attempts to adapt the show to a changed industry and environment, they say it has not been sufficient to increase the project’s profitability.
“It is of course a sad, but necessary decision to leave like this a little over a week before we open the 2025 boat show, but with this we want to avoid the spread of rumors and speculation during ongoing events,” said Benny Karlsson, commercial manager at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Gothia Towers which hosts the show.

“We will not close the doors to a future boat show if the situation changes, but at present no more events are planned.”
He added: “We hope for understanding for our decision and that as many people as possible take the opportunity to come and celebrate the wonderful boating life, visit the exhibitors, take part in world premieres and the fine stage program during this year’s boat show, which will be the last for a long time.”
Organisers plan to make the 2025 edition a boat party with more than 200 exhibitors, boat premieres, a new sailing area, more than 50 program items on stage and fun activities for the whole family.
In addition, a ‘hoppilander’ – a joint toast – is planned for Saturday, February 8 to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the boat show.
As part of the farewell to the boat show, a special place is being launched on the website where both exhibitors and visitors, old and new, can share their best memories of the boat show.
The last edition of the boat show will take place from February 1-9 2025.
