New tool to understand and track marine emissions

Seaquestr has launched a new software tool, SEAOtool, which aims to simplify the process of understanding and tracking emissions in the marine industry.

SEAOtool offers a set of emissions data and analytics tools that enable users to understand their carbon footprint and identify opportunities for reduction.

The software is built around the operations of vessels and marine companies and includes a dataset of marine-specific emissions factors.

Users can create a carbon footprint by entering data on various activities and products used during the reporting year, such as marine fuels, water supply, waste, and travel.

The platform then provides analytics and enables reporting aligned to the GHG Protocol.

Reducing energy consumption

“By actually understanding the data, you can work out the business cases for reduction,” explained Seaquestr CEO Zennor Pascoe.

“Whether it’s reducing energy consumption through upgrading HVAC systems, opting for a biobased composite, reducing the number of flights related to operations, switching to EVs, or installing solar panels.”

The platform is currently available for demos and consultations, with SEAOtool offering the software free of charge during its initial launch phase.

The company plans to introduce a subscription model in 2025.

The software has so far gained interest and support from various sectors within the marine industry, including yacht captains, engineers, sustainability consultants, and marine insurers.

The software is currently being tested and used by a diverse group of stakeholders.

Seaquestr is a sustainability consultancy, specialising in carbon accounting, net zero strategy, decarbonisation, carbon project development and carbon offset procurement.
