The Irish Department of Transport has issued a product warning notice for Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 410, 440 and 490 models produced between 2020 and 2022 due to a risk of sinking.
The notice states that due to a gluing problem, the bow thruster flange may detach and generate leaks meaning the boat may sink.
The notice follows a recall campaign launched by Jeanneau in March 2023 to reinforce the bonding of Sleipner-Sidepower retractable bow thruster modules in the hulls of Sun Odyssey 410, 440 and 490 equipped with this option and produced in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Jeanneau’s notice stated: “Because the safety of our boats is an absolute priority, we have decided to reinforce the thruster flange on these hulls to prevent the occurrence of seepage.”
The notice stated that the boats concerned should not be used and dealers or Jeanneau customer service should be contacted as soon as possible.
A Sun Odyssey yacht sank off the coast of Germany in March 2023.
