Oyster enters power catamaran market

Oyster Yachts has unveiled its first power catamaran, the P60, extending the British builder’s range into powered multihulls with a target range of up to 3,500 nautical miles at eight knots.

Revealed at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the model was developed with Berret Racoupeau Yacht Design.

It follows September’s announcements of the C60 sailing catamaran at Cannes Yachting Festival and the 36-metre monohull flagship at Monaco Yacht Show.

The expansion broadens Oyster’s offering to power-yacht buyers and sailors seeking long-distance cruising without sail handling.

The company expects particular interest from US customers cruising Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Major development

“The P60 signals a major development in Oyster’s approach to bluewater yachting,” said Stefan Zimmermann Zschocke, chief executive of Oyster Yachts.

“My team and I, with the full support of our owner, Richard Hadida, are strategically expanding the Oyster brand with products that serve different owner aspirations, united by the standards of design, luxury, and construction inherent in every Oyster.”

Preliminary specifications give an overall length of 19.42 metres, a beam of 9.35 metres and a draught of 1.70 metres.

Fuel capacity is 6,000 litres, with 1,000 litres of fresh water. The range and performance figures remain design targets, with specifications subject to change.

Easy to handle

Olivier Racoupeau of Berret Racoupeau Yacht Design added: “Our brief was to offer the space and stability of a 60-foot catamaran with the range of a true bluewater cruiser, while keeping her easy to handle for an owner couple.”

Accommodation includes an 18-square-metre owner’s suite with private access to the aft deck, two or three guest cabins and optional crew quarters. Buyers can choose galley-up or galley-down layouts.

The design provides 121 square metres of social space across the saloon, forward cockpit, aft cockpit and flybridge.

The 33-square-metre flybridge has a central helm, hardtop, bar and lounge. A hydraulic tender platform also serves as a swim platform.

Oyster World Rally

Twin engines and shaft lines are paired with two independent fuel tanks with transfer capability. Separate aft engine rooms provide maintenance access, while optional solar panels and a lithium battery bank are intended to reduce generator use at anchor.

P60 owners will have access to Oyster’s commissioning, training and global after-sales services, alongside owner events and the Oyster World Rally.

The proposed range exceeds the rally’s approximately 3,000-nautical-mile passage from the Galápagos to the Marquesas.
