Bering and RMK target larger expedition yachts

Bering Yachts has signed a collaboration agreement with Turkish shipbuilder RMK Yachts to develop and build expedition superyachts above 500 gross tonnes.

The partnership will combine Bering’s expedition yacht designs and long-range cruising approach with RMK’s engineering resources, industrial construction capacity and experience in ice-class and polar-class vessels.

Under the agreement, Bering will retain responsibility for design direction, brand identity and client relationships.

RMK will provide the engineering platforms and construction infrastructure required for larger and more technically complex projects.

The companies said the collaboration could support highly customised superyachts in the 500–3,000GT range. RMK’s facilities are primarily focused on vessels longer than 40 metres and above 500GT, including projects requiring Polar Class capability.

New scale

“Our collaboration with RMK Yachts opens a new chapter, enabling us to draw on its extensive engineering expertise and shipbuilding capabilities as we bring our vision of expedition yachting to an entirely new scale,” said Kristina Güner, creative director at Bering Yachts.

“We are combining the freedom to explore the world’s most remote destinations with exceptional design, comfort and advanced engineering.”

Alexei Mikhailov, founder and chief executive of Bering Yachts, said the partners were already discussing potential projects with prospective clients.

“We believe this collaboration creates an opportunity not only to expand our capabilities in building and selling superyachts, but also to establish a strong position in this highly specialised market,” he said.
