Nimbus Group has entered into a framework agreement with Nautrik covering the production and assembly of autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) for defence and security applications.
The partnership combines Nautrik’s AI-based technology for controlling multiple autonomous maritime units with Nimbus Group’s manufacturing capacity, marine engineering expertise and the shipyard’s experience producing advanced vessels in Sweden.
Nimbus will provide manufacturing, assembly and marine systems integration as the programme develops.
The first batch of vessels has already been delivered and has successfully completed planned acceptance and verification testing.
The companies say the results validated both the technical system and their industrial co-operation, marking an initial milestone under the agreement.
Strong validation
“This agreement is a strong validation of Nimbus Group’s capabilities beyond the recreational boating market,” said Johan Inden, chief executive officer of Nimbus Group.
And he said demand is increasing for advanced platforms in defence and security, and that the first deliveries demonstrated the group’s ability to industrialise and manufacture complex marine products in Sweden.
Nautrik chief executive officer, Oscar Fors, added: “Nimbus is the backbone of a strong Swedish sustainable supply chain for our products.”
He added that growing demand for validated autonomous marine systems made a scalable manufacturing partner essential.
Nimbus offers capabilities spanning design, engineering, production and lifecycle support, together with the flexibility and production capacity needed for future growth, said Fors.
He also cited the company’s record of delivering marine solutions in Sweden, including work for government customers, as a factor in selecting it.
For Nimbus, the agreement supports a strategy to expand beyond leisure boats into professional and government-related maritime applications.
The group sees further opportunities in defence, security and other mission-critical segments where reliability, manufacturing scale and established production expertise are important.
