Yorkshire inland marina acquired

Yorkshire’s Aire Valley Marina has been acquired by husband-and-wife team Declan and Lucy Colleran after the retirement of its long-standing owner.

The site is the largest inland marina in central Leeds, UK, with more than 1,000ft of mooring capacity.

The marina sits alongside the Leeds Liverpool Canal and caters to various types of boats.

It was established around 30 years ago and was owned by its previous proprietors since 2001.

The couple, both 29, say they’ve taken on the marina as a long term investment and are keen to look after it properly.

“We want to make sure it remains somewhere everyone enjoys and for now we’re taking the time to listen and learn,” they said.

“Over the next few years, we plan to invest in the marina and make improvements to the facilities and the grounds.”

Planned upgrades

Planned upgrades over the next few years will focus on the marina’s grounds and facilities – including improvements to restrooms, moorings and other areas on site.

Aire Valley Marina now forms part of Colleran Investments Ltd – a wider investment portfolio operated by Declan and Lucy alongside DC Environmental and Aquatic Restorations.

DC Environmental, a vegetation and civils contracting company and Aquatic Restorations – a marine contractor delivering dredging, invasive weed removal and workboat hire services – provide the foundation of the couple’s experience in the waterways sector.

“Through our other companies, we’ve gained extensive experience working across this waterway with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental management,” said Declan.

“We’re bringing that same approach to the marina – protecting what’s already there, while introducing improvements that will enable current and future residents and visitors to enjoy and experience the enhanced space.”

Lucy added: “It is one of the only residential marinas in the area, which sets it apart from the others.”

She continued: “The marina offers the best of both worlds: A peaceful setting on the water, surrounded by green spaces, with Central Leeds within walking distance.”
