The first YYachts Y8 equipped with an advanced hybrid propulsion system has entered production.
At the heart of this build is a Yanmar hybrid drive that combines conventional diesel propulsion with an electric motor.
In electric mode, the Y8 runs on lithium battery power. The system charges via shore power in port or through onboard solar energy.
The diesel engine is fully HVO-compatible, allowing it to be run on hydrotreated vegetable oil to reduce CO₂ emissions.
Real-time monitoring
Control is via Yanmar touch display with real-time monitoring of propulsion mode, energy flow and battery status.
The hybrid model builds on one of YYachts popular designs, developed in collaboration with Surge Projects — the studio of naval architect Javier Jaudenes — and featuring interior design by David Thulstrup.
Vessel features include a wider stern, the mast positioned further aft and carbon epoxy sandwich construction, with the yacht designed to be fast and safe.
Speed is enhanced with the engine room placed under the saloon floor giving the yacht a lower centre of gravity and thus a better balance, which results in additional pace.
Long-range passages
Below deck, a minimalist interior can be customised to the owner’s lifestyle — from crew-separated layouts for private long-range passages to open-plan configurations for family sailing.
The engine room is placed under the saloon floor giving the yacht a lower centre of gravity and thus a better balance, which results in additional speed.
A transverse tender garage, self-tacking jib, and double rudder system enable the yacht to be sailed shorthanded or with a full crew.
The Y8 is the follow-up model to the first ever YYacht.
