Webasto to open third Indian plant

Webasto has announced plans to open a third production plant in India.

The new facility in the Delhi region is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026 and was announced by Jörg Buchheim, CEO of the Webasto Group, during a visit to India.

The decision to open the new production site comes against a backdrop of increasing demand for retractable roof systems in the Indian automotive market.

The new plant will be located between Manesar and Kharkhoda in northern India and will primarily serve customers in this region.

The facility is designed for an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 units and will mean that Webasto will have a presence in all of India’s major automotive clusters and will be able to increase its total capacity to two million sunroofs a year.

“Our investment in a third Indian location demonstrates the key role this market now plays in Webasto’s global activities. India is a driving force for the mobility of the future,” said Buchheim.

The company says the new plant ensures proximity to customers, increases flexibility, and reinforces its strategy of producing directly in its target markets.

“With our third location, we can support our customers even better and offer solutions that are optimally tailored to the diversity of the Indian market,” explained Vikas Prasad, president of Webasto India.

Since 2019, Webasto has invested more than €110 million in expanding its business in India; a total of €174 million is planned by 2030.
