Fire destroys 20 boats in Texas marina fire

Around 20 boats have been destroyed in a fire at Marker 37 Marina, Corpus Christi, Texas.

Fire crews were called to the fire early on Monday (February 23). When they arrived at the scene, the fire was already well-developed and had already destroyed large sections of the docks and several slips at the marina along with several boats.

Multiple agencies responded to the fire including the U.S. Coast Guard, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Texas General Land Office (GLO), and city services with crews at the scene for several hours.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and an investigation is underway.

No-one was injured, however it is understood several of the boats were fishing tour boats and many people have now lost their livelihood.

Terrible tragedy

“Today we are heartbroken to share that a fire has devastated part of Marker 37 Marina, destroying most of our wet slips and many of our fishing guides’ boats.

“We are incredibly grateful that no one was hurt, but we know several guides lost their livelihoods overnight,” said the marina in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and everyone affected from this terrible tragedy. At this time, the fire department remains on site with us investigating the cause of the fire.”

The statement continued: “For over 30 years, this community has meant everything to us. We are committed to rebuilding as quickly as possible and will share updates soon – including ways we can come together to support the guides and those impacted.

“Thank you for your support, compassion, and outreach during this difficult time.”
