Antal acquires XPO and creates the Antal Group

Italian marine components manufacturer Antal has acquired La Rochelle, France-based technical and distribution partner XPO.

The acquisition has led to the formation of the Antal Group and will allow Antal to operate and expand in France, one of the centres of world sailing.

The acquisition will expand Antal’s business model from being a supplier of marine components to also providing technical support and developing custom solutions.

The acquisition of XPO will also provide further integration with Karver products and other brands in XPO’s retail portfolio including Tylaska, Furlerboom, Allen, Ropeye, Protect Tape and Clamcleat.

XPO’s chief executive officer and founder Xavier Phélipon will continue to lead the company within the new group, providing technical continuity and customer relationships.

Taking a step back in ownership in order to take a step forward in development was the right choice.

Xavier Phélipon

“Antal has always had a family spirit and what we are doing is honouring this legacy,” explained Antal chairman Enrico Gomiero.

“Xavier has never been only a commercial partner; he is an integral part of our history. By working for years with Roberto Carraro, he helped create the Antal range by sailing and testing each piece.

“With him at our side, we are taking the first step toward a consolidation that sees us ready to write a new chapter, combining Italian quality with the momentum of international markets.”

Phélipon added: “My relationship with the Carraro founding family has always made me feel at home.

Strategic and managerial vision

“When I met Enrico, I found the same human approach combined with a modern strategic and managerial vision.

“Taking a step back in ownership in order to take a step forward in development was the right choice.

“Together with Antal and Karver, we are creating a synergistic and innovative entity with no precedent in the history of the sector.”

Antal was founded in 1977 by Gastone Carraro and has a presence in 21 countries offering a range of deck equipment for a variety of boats from small sailing dinghies to superyachts.

XPO’s origins date back to 1998. The company designs and supplies equipment for sailing boats and pleasure craft.
