New ILCA president appointed

Mark Lyttle has been elected as the new president of the ILCA Class Association.

Mark takes up the position with several decades of experience sailing at an elite level for more than 20 years.

He began his sailing career in an Optimist at the National Yacht Club in Dublin, continuing to race in a variety of dinghies including Lasers – his first Laser was bought in 1977 and he sailed a Laser in the 1996 Olympics for Ireland.

Mark began competing in Master events in 2017 and has since competed in three Masters Worlds and two European championships.

He has also encouraged his three boys to sail ILCAs.

We have age groups from young teenagers to sailors in their eighties, sailing and racing locally, nationally and internationally.

“I would like to start by thanking Tracy Usher for his commitment and passion to ILCA sailing over many years,” he said.

“In particular, his work as president in guiding the class through the transition from Laser to ILCA.

“I am delighted to say that the World Council has elected Tracy to the ILCA Hall of Fame.”

He continued: “We have a thriving class and I look forward to building on that.”

Inclusive dinghy

And he said that he is passionate about ILCA sailing and believes the ILCA is uniquely positioned as the most inclusive dinghy there is.

“We have age groups from young teenagers to sailors in their eighties, sailing and racing locally, nationally and internationally, in addition to two Olympic events. It is truly a class for everyone,” concluded Mark.

“As president, I would like to lead a World Council that listens to our community, is open and responsive and works together to promote our class and the sport as a whole.”
