Work underway on Feadship construction hall

Work has begun on the largest construction hall to date at Greenport Rotterdam.

The hall will be used initially by luxury yachtbuilder Feadship and measures 160 metres in length, 45 metres in width and has a height of 49 metres.

It will be suitable for Feadship and other Greenport clients to construct megayachts of more than 100 metres in length and offshore constructions up to 10,000 tonnes.

Completion of the hall is scheduled for 2026.

This will be the ninth hall at Greenport for clients and partners to utilise for construction, refit and paint work.

The first pile was driven by HEBO founder Henk Bonsink alongside representatives of Feadship, NMC Maritime Technology, HEBO and Greenport.

Feadship has also marked another milestone with the completion of a new sustainable office building at its Makkum yard.

The 2,820sqm office is built entirely from wood, with the three-storey structure designed to be demountable and reusable.

It is connected to one of the yard’s original buildings – the former joinery workshop – by a 17-metre bridge which was constructed in-house by Feadship’s metalworkers.

The addition of the second dock hall will enable more refit projects to be carried out on site, allowing the yard to serve existing clients directly from Makkum.

“With the new facilities, the yard is ready for the future. Twenty years ago we started with 78 employees, and today we are a team of 450,” said director Sijbrand de Vries.

“Despite this enormous growth, there is a stronger foundation of mutual trust than ever. There is a spirit of helping one another and an incredible drive to be the best together.”

The new structure is the latest in a raft of developments at the Makkum yard which have also included a second dock hall in 2018 and new workshops.
